The EU-funded AWARD project aims to improve water management by integrating Alternative Water Resources (AWR) into strategic urban planning.
The project’s objective is to provide evidence-based knowledge and lessons learned on the effective integration of affordable, acceptable, and reliable AWR solutions, tested and monitored across four demonstration cases.
The Bucharest demonstration case focuses on developing an accurate urban water balance for the Tei area using AWR solutions. The project also includes awareness-raising and training for the local administration of Sector 2 and other stakeholders on how to implement AWR solutions in strategic urban planning.
The proposed AWR solutions include:
- rainwater harvesting in the Tei area;
- reuse of collected water to control lake water levels;
- support for aquifer recharge;
- preservation of natural environmental quality.
The project is supported by a research team from the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (UTCB) – the Research Center for Groundwater Engineering (CCIAS), led by Prof. Dr. Eng. Radu Gogu.
